Book Nook

I had to visit Toyota Motors this AM for the regular maintenance check-up of our car. It will take more than two (2) hours for the technician to check the car including their break so I decided to go to the nearby mall and have my break too while waiting for the maintenance check-up to be done.

At the mall (Blue Waves Marquinton Mall in Marikina), I came across a book shop called Book Nook. Catchy! I decided to go inside and look for some books on IT and t-shirt printing which I plan to do with my kids while on their summer vacation, and some story and reference stuff for them. The store is not as classy as Powerbooks or the National Bookstore (NBS). It's pretty closer and comparable with Booksale. It retails all kinds of books and magazines, old and new.

I met Mr. Raul Belonio, the owner who assisted me in my search for my stuff. Accomodating as he was, he mentioned about how he came up with his business and how he found satisfaction managing it. According to him, he put up the business upon retiring from his corporate job. Why bookstore? He just love books especially for children.. He wanted to be an instrument in reviving the old ways of reading and reading and reading especially for children amidst this CD ROM / Video era. Inspiring, indeed!

Well, I plan to visit him and the store again one of these days...

i don't have a kid, but i do have a nephew... first and only so far. at four, he is beginning to have an interest in reading and is learning how to. i just wish he doesn't lose momentum and keep on, considering all his playmates are more keen on playing with the computer.

Thanks for visiting, Jun! Kids always look for something new. To divert my kids from watching TV or playing video games, I always see to it that they have a new book every week. These should not necessarily be new ones.. Second hand books from books sales, Book Nook or even National Book Store, or even from your neighborhood store... Puzzle books, the Sudoku...These keeps my kids very busy... Keep visiting... thanks!

yes, this reminds me of my childhood when father took us to weekly trips to the bookstores. often, too, his pasalubong would be comics and/or activity books.
